2D/3D ANIMATION

2D animation or motion graphics is the visual representation used to create an illusion of motion. It can be used to produce corporate videos, product videos, commercial videos, training videos, music videos, etc.

3D animation is used to create video with three-dimensional techniques, using tools and programs that recreate reality. 2D and 3D animation techniques can be quite simple or very complex. MM Productions can develop 2D or 3D animations for any type of video according to customer needs.

Compositing

COMPOSITING

Compositing refers to the process used to modify the visual aspects of a movie through the addition of special effects in multiple video layers. Additional video clips are superimposed on an original movie via transparent sheets to create complex effects which are easy to manage.

VFX

Our editors and post-producers can create commonly abbreviated visual effects using Visual F/X or VFX. VFX refers to the various processes by which an image is created and/or modified outside the context of live action shooting.

Visual effects can be used to add live action footage and computer generated images (CGI) which may be too dangerous or too expensive or simply impossible to create in real life. CGI images have become increasingly common in big budget movies, while also becoming more accessible to amateur filmmakers, thanks to the introduction of affordable animation and compositing software products.

Visual effects can be divided into 4 main categories:

  • Models: miniature, animatronics and stop motion animations.
  • Matte paintings: still images digitally or traditionally painted or photographs used as backgrounds during compositing or with a rotoscope.
  • Live action effects: compositing of actors or models through the use of green screen or blue screen.
  • Digital animation: modeling, computer graphics, lighting, texturing, rigging, animation and rendering of 3D characters, particle effects, and digital sets and  backgrounds.

VFX are designed and edited in post-production through the use of graphic design, modeling and animation software products. Special effects, on the other hand, are typically made on set, including explosions, car chases, etc. A visual effects supervisor works closely with the production team and the film’s director from the very early stages of the process in order to produce the desired effects.

GREEN SCREEN

MM Productions specializes in the use of chroma key compositing using green screen and blue screen backdrops. With advanced digital cameras and chroma key, our clients can combine two video sources, using a particular color, or “key” color, to signal to the video mixer which source to use at any given time. The chroma key is used to separately set subjects and objects on “virtual” backgrounds using two primary methods:

  1. Previously filmed material is integrated with content filmed on a green screen or blue screen.
  2. In the most commonly used technique, fully digitally processed materials are integrated with the movement of real actors with the aid of computer graphics. Years of experience have allowed MM Productions to acquire a unique know-how in the use of this technique which is essential for many post-production digital projects. Backdrops of paper, fabric or green or blue screens alone are not enough to insure that the optimal result is achieved. A chroma key expert must also be able to achieve the right tone, light and shading in order to insure the success of a project.

MM Productions uses the chroma key process to isolate people, animals, objects, either whole or in part, for later post-production use. The same process applies to photographic productions.
